I’m having a hard time determining how to start this post. So, I guess I will just type and see what I come up with.
This blog was originally started in 2015 because my mother would always ask me for details and photos of my recent craft projects. Unfortunately, over the past year her vision diminished and she was no longer able to use her computer or a smartphone. Without the incentive of her reading it, I haven’t felt like blogging as much.
When I logged in this evening to write this post, I realized that my last posting was on Mother’s Day – very poetic since this post is about my mother.
Three years ago, my mother had a stroke and could no longer live independently. Since then, I have been her medical and financial power of attorney. This meant spending countless hours trying to get services that she needed, appointments made, and bills paid. It also meant moving her several times. With her living in Arizona, and me living in Minnesota, I have made several road trips to visit and/or move her. On Friday, I headed out on my last road trip to Arizona.
My mother’s health and cognition had been slowly declining over the past year, but more so in November and December. Early December, she lost her ability to speak clearly and coherently. With her phone set to auto answer, I would call her a couple times each day and let her know what I was doing, hoping that she was able to listen and know that someone was thinking about her
Sadly, for us, she passed away on December 19th. When I visited her in October, she knew that her health and cognition were getting worse and mentioned to me that her prayer was that she could spend Christmas in heaven. Well mom, your prayer was answered!!
